LASK faces a historic opportunity: In the Uniqa ÖFB Cup final on Friday, May 1, 2026, in Klagenfurt, the Linz club could finally win a title after 61 years. With star striker Sasa Kalajdzic and coach Dietmar Kühbauer, the Athletiker aim to secure victory against SCR Altach, who are also yearning for their first major title.

The LASK has been waiting for another title since their double win in 1965. Coach Dietmar Kühbauer, who won the Cup with WAC a year ago, could follow in the footsteps of Vaclav Halama, the only coach to lead two different ÖFB clubs to consecutive Cup victories. Kühbauer emphasizes the game's importance for the fans, 15,000 of whom will travel to Klagenfurt.

This marks LASK's seventh Cup final appearance, having lost five, most recently 0:3 in 2021 against Salzburg. However, this time the support is immense: 100 buses alone will transport 15,000 Athletiker fans to the Wörthersee Stadium to cheer on their team and celebrate the long-awaited title.

Their opponent, SCR Altach, is in a Cup final for the very first time and yearns for the first major title for a Vorarlberg club. Coach Ognjen Zaric, whose team eliminated champions Sturm Graz in the quarter-finals and Salzburg in the semi-finals, is aware of their underdog role and the chance for a European Cup ticket. The two season duels both ended 1:0 for the home team.

LASK enters the match as the clear favorite. As Bundesliga leaders after their 5:1 victory in Hartberg, the Linz side is in superb form. Sasa Kalajdzic, in particular, is flourishing, leading the Meistergruppe scoring charts with six goals and already showing World Cup form with his "magic shot" from 50 meters. For the ÖFB national team player, it would be his first career title.

In addition to Kalajdzic, powerful strike partner Samuel Adeniran returns to the starting lineup after his suspension. Defender Joao Tornich is also expected back. With Adeniran (ten goals across all competitions) and Moses Usor (13 goals), LASK possesses further dangerous attackers who will challenge Altach's defense.
